Chi Alpha Sigma
Fontbonne University has been accepted into the National College Athlete Honor Society as the Missouri Iota Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma (XAΣ), which recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year NCAA, NAIA, NCCAA, and USCAA institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition.
"We're thrilled to announce our chapter membership into Chi Alpha Sigma," said Associate Athletic Director Danielle Doerfler. "This honor society provides us with another vital opportunity to celebrate our student-athletes who embody the Division III mentality, excelling both academically and athletically. We look forward to inducting our first class, this spring, into this academic fraternity and continue to recognize the great accomplishments of our Fontbonne student-athletes."
Chi Alpha Sigma, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.
In order to be inducted, a student-athletes must be a junior academic standing or above (5th full semester) and have a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA. They must be a varsity level student-athlete and club teams can qualify if they're located within the umbrella of the athletic department.
Fontbonne will join other members such as Westminster, Culver-Stockton, Illinois College, University of Illinois, Bradley University, Lincoln University, and North Central College.
