2008 Inductees
John Thomas (Men's Basketball)
John Thomas played center for the Fontbonne basketball team from 2000-2003. During those three seasons, Thomas led the team in blocks and rebounds each year, led the nation in field goal percentage one year, earned D-III News Honorable Mention All-American honors and averaged at least 12 points a game.
In his sophomore year (his first at Fontbonne), Thomas averaged 16.2 points a game while shooting an amazing 70.4 percent from the field. Thomas led the nation with the highest field goal percentage. In that same season, John averaged 7.5 rebounds a game to lead the team and also recorded the most blocked shots on the team. John earned First-Team All-Conference honors.
In his junior year, John was second on the team in scoring averaging 17 points a game while shooting 67 percent from the field. He averaged nine rebounds a game to lead the team and the SLIAC in rebounding. He once again led the team in blocked shots. For the second straight year, John earned First-Team All-Conference honors
Prior to his senior year, John was named a D-III News Pre-season Honorable Mention All-American. During his senior year, Thomas averaged 12 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. He again led the team in blocks.
Thomas is one of 12 players in Fontbonne history to score more than 1,000 career points. He currently holds school records from highest field goal percentage in a season, highest career field goal percentage (67.3 %), most blocked shots (162) and most rebounds in a game 23.
Thomas graduated from Fontbonne with a degree in business administration. He is currently working as an assistant coach for the Fontbonne basketball program and is graduating from Fontbonne in May with two master’s degrees; one in business and one in education.
Jennifer Keuss (Women's Volleyball)
Jenny Keuss played volleyball for four years at Fontbonne from 1999-2003. During those four years, Jenny’s teams won the SLIAC three times and appeared in three NCAA Tournaments. Her teams finished with a 82-26 overall record and a 50-6 SLIAC record during her four years at Fontbonne.
During Jenny’s freshmen year she record 241 kills while holding a .308 hitting percentage, which was the best on the team. In her sophomore year, Jenny tallied 294 kills and a .313 hitting percentage (both team bests). She earned First-Team All-Conference honors that year. In her junior year, Jenny was second on the team in kills with 303 while leading the Griffins to an undefeated conference season (14-0). She was again selected to the First-Team All-Conference. In her senior year, Jenny led the team in kills with 445, which is the second best single season kill total in school history. Jenny also recorded a .279 hitting percentage. In her senior year, Jenny was selected as the SLIAC Player of the Year and to the First Team All-Conference. With 1283 career kills, Jenny ranks second for career kills at Fontbonne.
Jenny currently is an elementary school teacher at Central Elementary School in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. She is married with one son.
Steve King
(Men's Basketball)
Steve King played guard on the Fontbonne men’s basketball team from 1999-2003. During those four years, King averaged at least 12 points a game, shot better than 47 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line in each of those four seasons. During his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons King also led the team in assists. He received all-conference accolades in each of his four seasons with the Griffins. He earned the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors during his freshmen season.
During his freshman year, King averaged 13.6 points a game (second on the team) while shooting 49 percent from the field and recording a team best 160 assists. He earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors that year. In his sophomore year, King averaged 12 points a game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. He recorded 195 assists to once again led the team. He again earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
In his junior year, King averaged 17.6 points a game (second on the team)while shooting 49 percent from the field, 86 percent from the free throw line and 43 percent in three point field goal attempts. He tallied 138 assists to again led the team in assists. This season King earned First-Team All-Conference honors. In his senior year, King averaged 15.7 points a game and shot 48 percent from the field, 90 percent from the free throw line and 42.5 percent in three point field goal attempts. He finished third this season in assists. For his senior year, King earned First-Team All-Conference honors.
King currently ranks in the top five in scoring, assists and steals in Fontbonne history. He holds the single season record for highest free throw percentage at 90 percent and most assists at 195.
