Two Griffins garner SLIAC Player of the Week awards
St. Louis, Mo. - This week, Fontbonne athletics has two student-athletes garnishing St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards.
Freshman baseball player Austin Earnest (Ironton, Mo./Arcadia Valley) was named this week's SLIAC Pitcher of the Week. Earnest threw a complete-game win at Principia Saturday, striking out 13 Panthers over seven innings while allowing just five hits and walking four. The Griffins won 4-3 as he retired the final batter on a strikeout with runners on first and third. He is now 3-1 on the year.
For track, Tyler Williams (Flossmoor, Ill./Rich Central) earned the men's Runner of the Week award. Williams broke his own school-record in the 100m dash at the WashU Invite, running 11.23 seconds. His time was .14 seconds faster than two weeks ago in the Griffins' opening outdoor meet. He tied for 33rd in the race out of 83 runners and leads the SLIAC in qualifying time for the 100m.
