Three Griffins named to SLIAC Player of the Week
Fontbonne sweeps women's volleyball offensive and defensive honors while Olivia Beggs earns Runner of the Week for women's cross country.
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne athletics has three Griffins named to this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards. The Griffins swept women's volleyball awards and earned women's cross country Runner of the Week for the first time since Oct. 14, 2013.
Olivia Beggs (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) ran a 5k in 20:30 at the National Catholic Championships at Notre Dame College in South Bend, Ind. this weekend, earning SLIAC Runner of the Week honors. Beggs' time was the best among SLIAC competitors and is fourth best in program history.
Libero Maddie Stadler (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) gained women's volleyball defensive Player of the Week honors this week. Stadler totaled a massive 94 digs, nine aces as the Griffins went 3-1 on the week and 3-0 in conference play. Stadler currently leads the SLIAC overall with 239 digs on the season.
Outside hitter Kersten McDonough (Pacific, Mo./Pacific) was named the SLIAC's women's volleyball offensive Player of the Week this week. McDonough averaged .263 on the week with 66 kills (6.49 kills/set), 45 digs and 7 total blocks. McDonough leads the SLIAC overall with 205 kills and 233.5 points.
