Baseball shuts out MacMurray 9-0
St. Louis- Fontbonne baseball shut out the MacMurray College Highlanders on a beautiful Tuesday evening. Sophomore Tanner Carter struck out eight batters in seven innings of work. Alex Hill went 3-for-4 at the plate, which included two doubles, two runs scored and one run batted in. Playing at second base during the game, Ethan Boyer aided in all three Griffin double-plays, two of which included unassisted put-outs plus the assist.
Fontbonne scored three runs in the first and two in the second to take a 5-0 lead. After a scoreless third, Fontbonne took advantage of throwing errors, scoring one more run. No runs crossed the plate for the fifth and sixth innings, but two more Griffin runs were recorded in the seventh. One of those runs was a bases-loaded walk. The final Griffin run crosse home in the eighth.
MacMurray committed seven errors while their starting pitcher, Craven, allowed 10 hits.
The Griffins hit a total of four doubles and a sacrifice fly in rout to their win. Carter allowed four hits and zero walks during his time on the mound. Caleb Tatum relieved Carter in the eighth, giving up one walk and striking out two batters.
The win takes Fontbonne to 14 St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference (SLIAC) wins, tieing their number of conference wins from a year ago. It also puts Fontbonne in third in SLIAC standings and 20 wins overall. Last season the Griffins won 18 games.
Fontbonne travels to Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. this weekend for three games.
