St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University baseball suffered two losses to Westminster College today, their first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season. The Griffins are now 14-12 on the year and 9-2 in SLIAC play.
Game one: Westminster scored three runs in the first inning while Fontbonne answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and crossed the plate two more times in the fourth to tie the game. Zach Carel went for the sac bunt to move up two runners but the Blue Jay pitcher's soft throw fell into the glove of second baseman Cam Backes, who lost the ball as Carel collided with with him. The ball flew out to right center, allowing Greenway and Wallis to score.
Westminster scored three more runs in the fifth and won 6-4 after Fontbonne sent one more home.
Game two: The Griffins led 4-1 after two innings when Westminster scored three in the third and Fontbonne once for a Griffin 5-4 lead. Westminster closed out the game scoring eight more runs to Fontbonne's one.
Fontbonne will travel to Westminster tomorrow to complete the three-game stand.
