Griffins split No. 22-Webster to end the season

St. Louis, Mo. - After falling to Webster in their final home game of the season, the Fontbonne baseball team shutout the Gorloks 2-0 in Saturday's first game. Webster responded with a 10-0 win of game two.
Tanner Carter pitched all seven innings, earning his fourth win of the season. After four scoreless innings, Fontbonne freshman Ryan Schocker doubled and then stole third base to open the fifth inning. Catcher Patrick Shuff hit the sacrifice fly, recording the winning RBI. Outfielder Zach Carel doubled to open the seventh. Schocker went for the sac bunt, sending Carel to third who then scored on an error by Webster's pitcher.
Webster revenged Fontbonne in game two, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits and two errors. Leading Fontbonne, Ben Greenway went three-for-three at the plate that included two doubles. Spencer Sander went two-for three and stole the only base for the Griffins. Senior Caleb Tatum suffered the loss in his final collegiate appearance.
Ethan Boyer ended his season on an 11-game hitting streak. The sophomore didn't play in the Griffins' final three games against Webster. Greenway ends his season, leading all SLIAC players at the plate with a .462 batting average. He led the Griffins in at-bats (130), hits (60), doubles (15), RBI's (31), on-base percentage (.520) and slugging percentage (.638). On the season, Cale Laughlin recorded five wins and five losses on the mound with a 3.25 earned-run average. Tanner Carter went 4-5 on the year with a 3.92 ERA while Vince Santarsiero recorded four wins and three saves with just one loss. Santarsiero led all Griffin starters with a 2.18 ERA over 45.1 innings and after the regular season was ranked fourth among SLIAC pitchers. Laughlin, Carter and Santarsiero pitched 61, 53 and 50 strikes respectively. At the end of regular-season SLIAC play, Laughlin was fourth in strikeouts amongst his competitors.
The Griffins ended their season 18-20 overall and 13-9 in conference play.
