Highland, Ill. - MacMurray baseball handed Fontbonne two losses tonight. The Griffins have now lost four in a row and take on Webster this weekend. Fontbonne hosts the Big Bend rivals on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
Game one
With a 1-1 score, MacMurray scored two runs on two errors and two singles in the third to lead 3-1. The Griffins trailed by one in the fifth after a solo home run by Aaron Boyer, his first career long-ball. With two outs, Devon Tolan walked and took second on a wild pitch. He then scored on a single by Greenway to tie the game.
MacMurray scored four runs on four hits and three errors in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead and never look back. The Highlanders secured two more runs in the sixth on two hits and two errors. Fontbonne's final run in the seventh was scored by Boyer, who reached on an error and advanced to second. He scored after two wild pitches.
Game two
It was a six-up, six-down first inning with Brendan Beck pitching for Fontbonne and Corey Steinhart for MacMurray. Fontbonne got on the board first and led 1-0 until the sixth inning. Patrick Shuff led off the second inning with a walk and took second on a Steve Belovich single. He took third on an error by the pitcher and scored on a passed ball.
A Griffin double play got Beck out of the third inning after a leadoff walk while the Griffins stranded two runners in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the sixth, the Griffins earned two walks and two stolen bases along with a wild pitch to have two in scoring position with one out. MacMurray got out of the jam with a strikeout and groundout.
Two Fontbonne errors and a MacMurray single scored the tieing run. The Highlanders sacrificed to score the game-winner in the sixth.
On the afternoon, Greenway got a hit in four of five at-bats for a .800 batting average with one RBI and four walks. Devon Tolan totaled three hits on eight at-bats with a walk.
Fontbonne is in Sauget, Ill. Saturday night for a 7 p.m. contest against Webster.
