Griffins power past Chicago 8-3
Ethan Borrowman's three-run home run tied the game in the top of the second. Ben Greenway recorded the game-winning RBI single in the top of the fifth.
Auburndale, Fla. - Fontbonne University baseball is now 2-1 over spring break after their 8-3 victory over the University of Chicago Thursday morning.
Chicago started off 3-0 after the first inning but senior outfielder Ethan Borrowman lifted his first home run of the year to tie the game in the top half of the second.
After two scoreless innings, Fontbonne senior Ben Greenway recorded the game-winning RBI when he singled in Jonathan Hoevelmann. The Griffins added another insurance run that inning followed by two more in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Patrick Shuff went three-for-four on the day with a walk and two runs scored.
Levi Earnest picked up his second win of the season after pitching seven innings and fanning three Maroons.
Fontbonne recorded 15 hits in the win, compared to Chicago's eight. Chicago hit three doubles while the Griffins failed to hit for extra bases, besides Borrowman's home run.
Fontbonne is now 5-10 on the year.
Fontbonne concludes varsity action over break Friday when they square off against Benedictine at 2pm Eastern on Lake Myrtle's main field.
