Ethan Borrowman Selected as Student Speaker at Commencement
Fontbonne University baseball senior Ethan Borrowman was selected as the student speaker for the University's 2017 Commencement ceremony. Commencement this year is on May 8th and will be held at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis.
St. Louis, Mo. - Today, April 6th, is National Student-Athlete Day and Fontbonne Athletics would like to congratulate baseball senior Ethan Borrowman on his selection as the student speaker for the University's 2017 Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place at Chaifetz Arena on Monday, May 8th.
Vice President for Student Affairs, Joe Deighton, called the Pittsfield, Ill. native earlier this week with the exciting news. Candidates are nominated through their respective academic departments and then selected by a combined vote of the Undergraduate Academic Committee and members of the Fontbonne Commencement Committee.
Borrowman is active on Fontbonne's campus. He is in the Math and Computer Science Club, a Student Ambassador and a member of the Fontbonne Mobile App Lab. As a student ambassador he works within the admissions department, guiding campus visits and elaborating on his love for the University.
"I love the community feel of Fontbonne and that I have had the chance to play baseball," commented Borrowman. "NCAA Division III allows me to play a sport while still making my education the top priority."
Borrowman went to Pittsfield High School and has been a member of the Griffins baseball team for four years. He has been on the Dean's List each eligible semester and also named to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. This season, the outfielder has played in all 21 games and averages .301 at the plate. His seven-game hit streak earlier this year is the longest of his career.
Coincidentally, the last Undergraduate student-athlete chosen to speak at Commencement was also a baseball player. Dustin Graves was selected to speak at the 2014 Undergraduate ceremony while men's soccer player Ethan Kristek was selected for the 2014 Master's ceremony, back when Fontbonne held two separate Commencements.
Borrowman is a Computer Science major and will graduate with a minor in Cyber Security.
After graduation he plans to move to North Carolina with his fiance, Mackenzie, to get a job developing mobile applications.
