Ethan Borrowman named CoSIDA Academic All-District
Senior outfielder Ethan Borrowman is just the second baseball player in Fontbonne history to be named to a CoSIDA Academic All-District team!
The 2016-17 Academic All-District Baseball teams were announced today as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight districts that recognize the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III.
In order to be selected to an Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing and is nominated by the school's Sports Information Director.
Fontbonne, representing NCAA Div. III District Five (AL, AR, FL, GA, MO, MS, NC, PR, SC, TN, VA) garnished the only St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference representative within the district while Spalding took home three honors in District Two.
A Computer Science major, senior outfielder Ethan Borrowman (Pittsfield, Ill./Pittsfield) earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the first time in his career. He becomes just the second in the history of the program to earn the honor, the first being Zach Carel in 2014. The four-year Griffin has a 3.96 cumulative GPA and is also the student-speaker at commencement Monday and is involved in various activities on campus.
Borrowman is fifth on the Griffins squad with a .555 slugging percentage and is second on the team with five home runs. He has recorded 10 doubles this year, has 44 hits, 26 runs batted in and averages .344 at the plate. Borrowman is currently on a five-game hitting streak as the Griffins enter their final SLIAC series of the regular season. He has been on the Dean's list and SLIAC All-Academic Team each eligible year.
CoSIDA Academic All-District award winners will be considered for the Academic All-America teams, voted on by the Academic All-America committee and CoSIDA Board of Directors.
