Griffins Take Series From Prairie Wolves, Chapman Walks It Off In Game Two
ST. CHARLES, Mo.—The Fontbonne University baseball team had its offense going on Sunday at Carshield Field with an 8-3 win in game one over Nebraska Wesleyan and a 7-6 (11 inn.) walk-off win in game two off the bat of Lance Chapman.

How It Happened
In game one, the Griffins got on the board in the first with Jonathan Hoevelmann leading off with a triple and he scored on Gus Purschke's sacrifice-fly.
In the third, the Griffins tacked on three more. Purschke led off with a triple and moved up a base after Jackson Penrod was hit-by-pitch. Michael Puckett, Jr., reached base on an error by the center fielder allowing Purschke to score.
Braeden Dobbs followed with an RBI groundout and Matt Tossick capped the inning off with a sacrifice-fly to make it a 4-0 game. Luke Summers, meanwhile, continued his dominance as he sat down 14 straight from the second until the sixth inning.
The Griffins added another run in the sixth and three more in the seventh on a two RBI double from Puckett, Jr., and an RBI single from Tyler Grimes. From there, they were able to go on for the five-run win.

- Summers led on the bump going 8.0 innings, allowing three runs and striking out nine.
- Penrod, Grimes, and Lance Chapman each recorded two hits.
- Puckett, Jr., led in the RBI department with two.
- Purschke, Dobbs, Tossick, and Grimes added the other RBI.
Neb. Wesleyan Notables
- Connor Cech took the loss after going 6.0 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) and striking out three.
- Derek Kolbush and Will Watkins led with two each hits and combined for three RBI.

How It Happened
The Prairie Wolves jumped on the board first, but that lead lasted until the home half of the third. With the bases loaded, Penrod singled to left, bringing home the duo of Tyler Chambliss and Hoevelmann to give them a 2-1 lead.
Puckett, Jr., kept the line moving with an RBI single to left that plated Purschke. Penrod went on to score on Dobbs grounding out into a double play. An RBI single from Purschke in the fourth put Fontbonne ahead 5-1.
However, the Prairie Wolves started to trim away at the deficit in the sixth. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Derek Kolbush and Will Watkins, along with an RBI single from Spencer Scheer made it a 5-4 outing.
In the top of the seventh, the Prairie Wolves had the bases loaded with nobody out. Tyler Winterstein stepped in and found the hole through the left side to plate two and give NWU a 6-5 lead.
However, that advantage was short-lived. Puckett, Jr., got things going with a one out RBI double. Two batters later, he scored on a Prairie Wolves throwing error to tie the game.
It remained that same score up until the bottom of the 11th. A single by Penrod, a walk to Puckett, Jr., and a bunt single by Dobbs had Fontbonne in business with nobody out.
Two batters later, Chapman dug in and ripped an RBI single up the middle to give Fontbonne the walk-off 7-6 win.

- The Griffins totaled a season-high 19 hits in the win.
- Hoevelmann had a day as he tied his career-high with five hits and a run scored.
- Penrod and Dobbs each contributed three hits. Penrod led with two RBI.
- Purschke, Puckett, Jr., and Chapman had two hits each.
- Mike Jacobson was dominant out of the pen as he closed out the final 3.0 innings and totaled four strikeouts for the win.
- Alex Phillips got the no decision in his 6.0 innings of work and he struck out nine.
Neb. Wesleyan Notables
- Winterstein and Kolbush tied with a team-high two RBI each.
- Evan Gellatly had two hits and two runs scored at the leadoff spot.
- On the bump, Drew Poulas allowed one run on four hits in 1.1 innings of work to take the loss.
