Griffins Sweep Past Blackburn, Summers Becomes All-Time Leader In Wins
CARLINVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University baseball team got back over the .500 mark on Saturday after a 12-0 win in game one and a 12-1 (7 inn.) victory in game two against Blackburn. In the first outing, Luke Summers became the all-time wins leader at Fontbonne with 18.

Game One
Score: Fontbonne 12, Blackburn 0
Location: Carlinville, Ill.
Records: Fontbonne (18-8; 5-5 SLIAC), Blackburn (3-20; 1-8 SLIAC)
How It Happened
The scoring got started in the second with the Griffins plating two runs on RBI from Tyler Grimes and Joey Casey.
That score remained the same until the top of the fifth. Jonathan Hoevelmann led off with a single. Later, consecutive walks to Jackson Penrod and Braeden Dobbs had the bases loaded for Michael Puckett, Jr.
The Florissant, Mo., native, belted a grand slam to left, his fifth on the year, to extend the Griffins lead out to 6-0. The team added another run in the sixth and put the game away in the seventh.
With one on, Puckett, Jr., struck again with another homer to left, his sixth on the season, to make it a 9-0 contest. Matt Manint went on to score on an error and Hevelmann closed out the inning with a two-run shot of his own to give Fontbonne a 12-0 lead.
That was more than enough for Summers as the junior hurler struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning for the win.

- Summers earned his seventh win on the year after striking out 13 and allowing six hits.
- Puckett, Jr., ended the outing going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a career-high six RBI. He's also set a new career-high in homers.
- Hoevelmann went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI at the leadoff spot.
- Penrod and Dobbs had two hits each.
Blackburn Notables
- Isaac Garrett fell to 0-4 on the year after allowing six runs and walking five in his 4.1 innings pitched.
- Steven Diaz and Tyler Jackson had two hits each.

How It Happened
The Griffins offense continued rolling in game two. In the top of the second, Puckett, Jr., led off with a double and moved over a bunt single by Matt Tossick. After a hit-by-pitch to Manint, Grimes hit a single to score Puckett, Jr.
Casey made it 2-0 on a sacrifice-fly, then Hoevelmann followed with a double to clear the bases and push the lead out to 4-0. Penrod finished the inning out with an RBI single of his own.
Another RBI single from Hoevelmann in the fourth put Fontbonne ahead 6-0. In the fifth, the Griffins tacked on four more runs on four hits. The Beavers scored a run in the fifth, but Fontbonne scored one in the sixth and seventh for the mercy-rule 11-run win.

- John Hughes picked up his second win on the year after striking out a season-high eight.
- Hughes, Jake Jump, and Mike Jacobson combined for a one-hitter.
- The Griffins scattered 18 hits and were led by Hoevelmann and Grimes having three each. The duo also combined for five RBI.
- Gus Purschke, Penrod, Dobbs, and Puckett, Jr., totaled two hits each. Penrod led with three RBI.
Blackburn Notables
- Dalton Fisher fell to 0-3 allowing 11 runs and striking out three.
- Binder had the lone hit.
