Fontbonne falls short against #21 ranked Washington University
St. Louis- The Fontbonne University men's basketball team fell tonight against the Washington Univeristy Bears 62-85. Washington University (WashU) is currently ranked 21 on D3Hoops.com for men's basketball. The unbeaten Bears are now 3-0 as the Griffins fall to 0-2 on the season.
With 9:52 left to play in the first half, WashU was leading 12-22. The Bears would go on a 12-point run until freshman Richard Dorhauer would break the Griffin silence from behind the arc. WashU was leading by 19 points going into the second half. The Griffins dug a hole too deep to recover. With their young squad, Fontbonne recorded 11 turnovers throughout the game. The Bears out-rebounded the Griffins 51-26.
Dorhaurer led the Griffin offense making four shots from beyond the arc, five from the field, and 3-3 from the line for a total of 17 points. Fellow freshman Jared Greenlee also made five shots from the field and connected each of his two attempts from the three-point range. Greenlee totaled 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds for the Griffins. Fontbonne sophomore Greg Gentry recorded 10 points during the game. Freshman starter Jack Stephens contributed with 7 rebounds on the night. Fontbonne received assistance from freshman reserve Darius Rucker who posted 8 points off the bench.
Support the Griffins as Fontbonne hosts Edgewood College Friday night at 7:00pm and stay home Saturday to take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 3:00pm.
