St. Louis- Tonight marked the first men's basketball home game on the Lee McKinney Court. Fontbonne fell to Edgewood College 83-82 in regulation. The Griffins are now 0-3 on the season while Edgewood marks their first win with a record of 1-2.
Edgewood was down 81-82 when Eagle junior Justin Williams went for the go-ahead lay-up. Williams completed the 2-point conversion on a controversial tip-in with 0.3 seconds left to give the Eagles the lead and the game-winning bucket.
Leading the Eagles' offense was senior Cashton Craig. Craig ended the night with 24 points and 5 assists. Fifty percent of those points came from behind the arc. Sophomore Joe Klocek grabbed 14 points and eight defensive rebounds to help advance his team to their first win of the season.
Fontbonne sophomore Greg Gentry grabbed the game high 25 points on the night. Freshmen Darius Rucker and Gared Greenlee each scored 11 points for the Griffns while Jack Stephens shared in the double-digit offense contributing 10 points. Overall the Griffins were 24-29 from the line.
Fontbonne outrounded the Eagles 30-25, out-stole the Eagles 10-5 and committed 8 less fouls and 8 less turnovers than their opponent. Edgewood shot 66% from the field, with 71% being from downtown. Fontbonne was only able to convert 43% of their shots from the field.
The Griffins host the Milwaukee School of Engineering tomorrow at 3pm.
