The Fontbonne University men's basketball team struggled offensively last night shooting just 31 percent in a 72-54 loss to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Griffins fell to 0-5 on the season.
After a close game early, Rose-Hulman took command by ending the first half on a 21-4 run. The Griffins mustered just one point in the final seven minutes of the first half. Fontbonne shot just 23 percent in the first half and found themselves trailing 34-16 at halftime. Fontbonne rebounded to play Rose-Hulman even in the second half.
For the game, Fontbonne was led by junior guard Andrew Chism and freshman center Jack Stephens. Chism and Stephens scored 10 points apiece for the Griffins off the bench. Fontbonne starters combined to go 5-18 from the field. The Griffins did control the glass as they outrebounded Rose-Hulman 41-32 led by freshman Jacob Martin's eight. Fontbonne however committed 21 turnovers while recording just 10 assists.
Fontbonne will return to the court on Saturday as they travel to Carlinville, Illinois for a 3 pm game against Blackburn College. Saturday's game will be the Griffins first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) game.
