Men's Basketball secures first win at home (94-64)
St. Louis- The Fontbonne University men's basketball team finally secured their first win of the season. The Griffins defeated the Principia College Panthers 94-64. Fontbonne is now 4-9 on the season and 2-2 in SLIAC play. The Panthers fall to 0-11 overall.
Fontbonne jumped out to a 9-2 lead but Principia answered right back going on a 12-0 run (Panthers lead 14-9)until Bryton Curtis re-juvenated the Griffin offense with 12:30 to go in the half. In just under two minutes, Richard Dorhaur would sink 10 points in just under 2 minutes of play. Fontbonne went on an 8-0 run before Panther Kenny Sydness nailed a 3-pointer. The Griffins led 30-21 and would go on a 13-0 run before the Panthers could finish a shot (again by Sydness). First half basketball ended with the Griffins leading by 20 (50-30) over the Panthers.
Fontbonne guaranteed their lead by pressing immediately in the 2nd half, forcing Panther turnovers to continue. Fontbonne's largest lead of the night was 32 points (79-47) with 7:30 remaining.
Principia's Damon Wilgus ended the night with a game-high 27 points. Wilgus played all but 1 minute in tonight's game. Teammate Kenny Sydness totaled 21 points to take in the second highest points accumulation on the night.
Fontbonne had four players in double-digit scoring: Jared Greenlee (19), Dorhauer (13), Colton Woods (13), and Andrew Chism (11). Greg Gentry added 6 assists for the Griffins.
Fontbonne travels to MacMurray Saturday for a 3pm tipoff and returns home next Tuesday against Blackburn for an 8pm contest.
