Griffins fall to second half Gorlok surge
St. Louis- Men's basketball fell to Webster University Gorloks last night 69-82. Webster goes over .500 in the SLIAC (4-3) while Fontbonne slips to 3-4 in conference play. Overall the Griffins are 5-11 and the Gorloks are 6-9 on each of their seasons.
Webster held the lead for the first 6 minutes of the game before Jared Greenlee's jumper gave Fontbonne the 2-point edge (14-12). Play continued back and forth with Fontbonne having the upper hand until 3 minutes left in the 1st half when Webster's Hollis Edwards connected on a jump shot to give them the lead 38-36. The half would end with Fontbonne trailing by one with the score 39-40.
Webster's offense immediately went on a 12-2 run over the Griffins to give them a 52-41 lead with 16 minutes left to play. Fontbonne was able to bring the game within 4 thanks to an 8-0 run by the Griffins with 12:27 to go, however Webster answered right back going on a 7-0 run. The Gorloks would control the lead the entire 2nd half to win the game 82-69.
Greg Gentry and Andrew Chism each reeled in 13 points on the night for the Griffins. Chism went 4-8 in the field off the bench along with 4 rebounds. Gentry was all over the court, also collecting 5 assists and 3 steals. Forwards Greenlee and Colton Woods each recorded 11 points on the night for Fontbonne. Greenlee also brought in 8 rebounds.
For Webster, Roman Robinson and Ahmad Smith each recorded 18 points. Robinson also contributed with 13 boards. Jarrod Huskey totaled 12 points on the night and Cody Bradfisch brought in 13 points off the bench for the Gorloks.
Fontbonne travels to Greenville Saturday to take on the Panthers. Start time is around 8pm.
