St. Louis- Fontbonne's men's basketball team struggled to connect with the basket on Saturday in Louisville against the Spalding Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles led the entire first half, sometimes by as much as 20 points and was leading 43-25 at the half. Spalding won the game 86-63.
Fontbonne's highest scorer was freshman Blake Welch (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh). Welch continued his hot streak behind the arc, connecting on 6 of 8 attempts and sinking all 6 attempts at the free throw line. Welch ended the game with 26 points, just 5 points shy of his career-high 31 points accumulated in his most recent game.
Fellow freshman Zach Carel (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway Central) was the only other Griffin in double digits. Carel scored 10 points off the bench.
