Gorloks slay Griffins 78-60
St. Louis- Webster University out-scored Fontbonne 78-60 this afternoon in Webster Groves, Mo. The Griffins are 1-1 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play and 1-5 overall. The Gorloks advance to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in SLIAC competition.
First half shortcomings led the Griffins to trail 20-34 at halftime. Fontbonne came out pressuring hard during the second half, scoring double the points, but ran out of time.
Freshman forward Bryan DeGeare posted the only double-double in each of his last two games. Against the Gorloks DeGeare posted 10 rebounds and 15 points. Sophomore Darius Rucker was close, bringing in 9 rebounds and scoring 10 points. Sophomore Richard Dorhauer led the Griffins' scoring surge, posting all 12 of his points in the second half with 100% accuracy. Dorhauer totaled five shots on five total attempts and was 2-2 behind the arc.
Two Gorloks posted double-digit points. Webster's 10 turnovers compared to Fontbonne's 20, gave them the advantage as well as their 51.6% field goal percentage. Fontbonne out-rebounded Webster 23-9 in the 2nd half, before the Griffins finished with the 44-21 rebounding lead.
