DeGeare Posts Career-High Double-Double in 100-85 Loss against Concordia Chicago
St. Louis- Six Griffins scoring in double digits last night wasn't enough as the Concordia University Chicago Cougars won 100-85. Fontbonne falls to 1-7 on the 2013-14 season.
Freshman Bryan DeGeare recorded his third double-double in his last four games, setting a new career-high 14 rebounds for the Griffin, with 13 on the defensive side of the boards. DeGeare's 18 points were one short of his career-high.
Sophomore Blake Welch and Jared Greenlee, along with freshman Kody Ettinger raked in 12 points. Freshman Orkan Bakis totaled 11 points on the evening.
Marcus Elston and Brandon Stinson's double-doubles, 18 rebounds, 16 points and 24 points, 10 rebounds respectively, put the Cougars on top along with Mike Walmer's 25 points.
First half scoring was pretty even with Concordia edging Fontbonne 44-40. Jacob Oakley drained a last-second three-pointer for the Cougars before heading into the locker room. All of Bakis' points came during the second half.
With a 48-46 lead with 18:55 on the clock, Concordia scored four free throws in a row and added a jump shot for a 52-48 lead. Slowly, Fontbonne crept back, taking a 57-54 advantage, before Concordia overturned for a 61-59 lead. Fontbonne would turn around and create their final lead of the game with a 64-63 score. After Concordia's eight-point run (71-64), the Griffins came back within five points (79-74), at which point, the Cougars ran away with an 11-point run, securing a 90-74 lead with 4:13 remaining.
