St. Louis- Fontbonne men's basketball got off to a slow start after their 14-day hiatus from competition, resulting in an 87-50 loss to Wydown rival Washington University tonight. The Bears, currently ranked #9 in the D3Hoops.com Top-25 poll blanked the Griffins 50-25 in the first half.
Washington U.'s Alan Aboona went 7-7 behind the arc before missing his first and final three point attempt on the night. The Bears totaled 15 treys by game's end.
Griffin starters struggled throughout the game, forcing Fontbonne to dig deep into their bench early. Sophomore Darius Rucker scored the Griffin-high 12 points off the bench. Sophomore starter Jared Greenlee was the only starter scoring in double digits (10).
Quick in and out passing gave the Bears plenty of three-point opportunities. Aboona's game-high 24 points led the Bears to victory. Matt Palucki connected on four three's en route to his 12 points on the night.
The Griffins travel to Louisville, Ky. this weekend to take on St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Spalding University. The game should start about 3pm Eastern time.
