DeGeare Posts 23 Points in Griffin Win
St. Louis- Fontbonne University men's basketball jumped out to a 12-2 lead, draining all four three-point attempts and missing only one jumper. This was the ignition for an 84-73 win over SLIAC foe Principia.
The Griffins led by as many as 13 during the first half. Principia was able to cut that deficit to four with 3:22 to go. Only four free throws were made between then and the end of the half, with Fontbonne draining three. Blake Welch scored all 11 of his points in the first half. Two of the first four treys were made by DeGeare, his only points of the half.
Beginning with a 35-39 advantage and Principia scoring the first second-half bucket, Fontbonne scored seven straight for a 42-32 lead. At the beginning of the second half, DeGeare scored 11 including a trey and a dunk, his second in as many games. Darius Rucker was instrumental as well, putting 10 points on the board. The two combined for 21 of the first 25 second-half points.
DeGeare drained 17 points during the second half totaling the game-high 23 points with four treys on five attempts and ending 9-12 overall. Rucker scored 15 of his 17 points during the second half of the game as well. Jared Greenlee was the other Griffin scoring double-digits (12).
For Principia, Larry Patterson scored 15 points in the first half before ending with a total of 19. Justin Ball finished with 17 points and Kenny Sydness added another 16 with seven rebounds.
Fontbonne takes on Eureka College at home this Saturday, February 1st. Tipoff is slated for 3pm.
