Men's Basketball falls to Webster in Season Finale
St. Louis- The 2013-2014 Fontbonne University men's basketball season came to a close on Tuesday night as the Webster Unversity Gorloks sealed the victory in the Battle of Big Bend. The Gorloks finished as the #3 seed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Griffins were up 11-4 but three missed treys by Fontbonne allowed Webster to get ahead 12-11. Bakc and forth play would result in two Gorlok free throws for the 16-15 advantage. The Gorloks had a couple of 7-8 point runs, leading 39-30 at halftime. Webster would hold onto the lead the rest of the game, winning 83-58.
Senior Yada Demisse totaled eight points, connecting on two three-pointers and bringing down three rebounds in his final collegiate game. Sophomore Jared Greenlee posted 16 points and 8 rebounds in the loss, shooting 6-10 in the field. Freshman Bryan DeGeare notched 10 points for the Griffins.
Fontbonne shot just 18.2% behind the arc while Webster took advantage, shooting 37% from long range. The Griffins' 25 turnovers allowed the Gorloks to press on.
Hunter Ward totaled 19 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double for Webster. Kevin Miller's 15 points on six of nine attempts aided in the win.
