Greenville hands Fontbonne third loss in a row

St. Louis, Mo. - Trailing by 16 points with 11 minutes left to play, the Fontbonne University men's basketball team posted a 24-10 run to trail by two with 44 seconds remaining. A Fontbonne foul gave Greenville two uncontested points, but a Richard Dorhauer layup pulled the Griffins back within two points with 30 seconds left. It was the closest the Griffins would get to the Panthers. Greenville won 74-70 to increase their SLIAC record to 6-1. The Griffins fall to 3-4 in conference play and the loss marks their third consecutive.

Fontbonne overpowered Greenville just two times in the first half, both off of three-point conversions. Junior Jared Greenlee's night was cut short when his shot was misdirected on a hard shot to the arm by a Panther defender just five minutes into the game. Freshman Jack Lake tied the game with 9:28 left in the first half until Greenville posted three three-pointers in a row on their way to 11 unanswered points and would lead 39-25 at halftime.

Fontbonne cut Greenville's lead down to nine just three minutes into the second half until Greenville secured their 16-point lead.

Greenville recorded 11 steals to Fontbonne's four in their battle to victory. Tim Daniel scored the game-high 16 points for the Panthers with three other teammates in double digits.

Fontbonne's Evan Johnson scored 15 points on three treys. Welch finished with 14 points on two three pointers and went 6-for-10 in the field overall. Ben Kissing and Richard Dorhauer each totaled 12 points and seven rebounds in the tough loss. Dorhauer also recorded four assists with Kissing adding two of his own. Darius Rucker secured the game-high 12 rebounds off the bench for the Griffins.

Fontbonne plays in the first round of the Battle of Big Bend this Saturday, traveling to Webster University to take on the Gorloks. Gametime is slated for 3pm on January 17th.
