Griffins soar over Principia in 80-55 win
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's baskteball flew past the Principia College Panthers today as the Griffins won 80-55. Fontbonne is now 8-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, edging them closer to post-season play.
After Blake Welch scored the game-winning three-pointer with under one second left in overtime at Greenville Wednesday, the junior connected on a trey at the beginning of each half today. Fontbonne got off to a 7-0 head start and allowed Principia to claw back for their only lead of the game (10-9). The Griffins went into the locker room 32-21.
Fontbonne scored six straight points in the second half to up their lead 45-24 and never looked back.
Darius Rucker had a big day off the bench as he recorded 24 points and six rebounds. Jared Greenlee continues to guide the team on the court accumulating 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Rucker was 10-for-15 and Greenlee 7-for-12. Evan Johnson wanted to spread the wealth, as the senior totaled six assists while Orkin Bakis went inside more today, recording 10 rebounds.
Principia's Larry Patterson was the high scorer for the Panthers with his 13 points.
The Griffins host Big Bend rival Webster University this Wednesday, February 11th at 8 p.m.
