Griffins end conference drought with win over Spalding
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University men's basketball secured their first conference win this past weekend with a 79-72 victory over 2015 SLIAC Tournament Champion Spalding University. The win ends the Griffins two-game losing streak. Fontbonne sits 3-6 overall and 1-2 in SLIAC play.
Fontbonne was down 50-41 with 16:24 to play when the Griffins scored seven unanswered points to pull within two. Kody Ettinger came in off the bench with two made three-pointers to lift Fontbonne up by one with 11:35 to go. Fontbonne led by two with 9:04 to play when they scored 10 points to Spalding's two and kept the lead to secure the win.
Jared Greenlee posted a season-high 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Griffins. The senior forward made five of his six bucket attempts. Junior Ben Kissing recorded 20 points and six rebounds, for his fourth consecutive 20+ scoring game. Ettinger finished with 14 points while Richard Dorhauer was the final Griffin in double-digit scoring with 13 points. Greg Gentry tallied five assists in the contest.
Spalding's James Turner and Brandon Goeing led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 18 and 17 points respectively while Nick Trisko recorded nine defensive rebounds on his way to 12 total on the afternoon.
The Griffins host No. 20-ranked Washington University this Thursday, December 17th at 8 p.m. The Wydown Showdown will be the final contest of 2015 for Fontbonne.
