St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's basketball trailed by just three points at halftime, despite a 13-point deficit with 5:53 to go and 10 turnovers. Fontbonne's Ben Kissing left the game two minutes into the second half, not to return and an eight-point Gorlok run put a cushion between the Big Bend teams, with the Griffins unable to catch up. Webster won the physical battle 79-67. The Griffins fall to 8-13 overall and 6-8 in conference play, limiting their chances of tournament play.
Jared Greenlee posted 11 first-half points for the Griffins with six rebounds. When fellow senior Richard Dorhauer was off from long-range, the St. Louis native drove to the bucket, for 15 second-half points in his rally to keep the Griffins alive.
Dorhauer connected on one three-pointer to lift Fontbonne over Webster 41-40 early in the second half but Webster's 15-2 run gave them an 11-point advantage with 10:55 to go. Dorhauer then posted five points to pull Fontbonne within six points, but the Griffins wouldn't get any closer.
Dorhauer finished with a career-tying and game-high 22 points and eight rebounds. Greenlee recorded 16 points on five-of-seven and 6-of-10 at the charity stripe with eight rebounds as well. Fontbonne turned the ball over 21 times, with the Gorloks committing just seven total. Webster's 30 points off turnovers ultimately hurt the Griffins who also shot just 64.8% at the free-throw line.
Fontbonne returns to Lee McKinney Court this Wednesday for a matchup with SLIAC rival Greenville College at 8 p.m.
