Men's basketball overtaken by Iowa Wesleyan
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's basketball suffered an 87-74 loss against Iowa Wesleyan Monday afternoon. The Griffins, fell behind and by as many as 24 points with 7:24 left in the game, made movement at the end of the contest but ran out of time.
Six Griffins scored in double digits as Fontbonne spread the wealth. Scoring 14 points heach were Tyler Schwartz and James Wiggins. Wiggins made five of seven shot attempts and sank all four free throws. Jack Lake, Jeff Smith, Kris McCann and Rio Justice Chandler all netted 10 points. lake only missed one of six shots. Smith also reigned in seven rebounds. Chandler, McCann and Schwartz each scored two treys.
Schwartz's two three-pointers came at the very beginning of the game when he was the only player to score in almost four minutes.
Steven Soukup rendered 30 points for the Tigers including eight points in two and a half minutes for the Tigers towards the end of the first half. He scored 18 points alone in the second half on 8-of-11 and finished with 13 buckets on 19 attempts.
The two teams were relatively even in rebounds, points in the paint and turnovers however Iowa Wesleyan's accuracy ultimately edged the Griffins for the win. They shot 49.3% in the field compared to Fontbonne's 44.8%.
The Griffins are at home the rest of the week to host Webster University on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. The SLIAC will then begin the second half of their rotation on Saturday. Fontbonne hosts Westminster College at 3 p.m. on the 21st.
