Griffins fall in a packed gym at home against Webster
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's basketball trailed by two at halftime but found themselves down 27-26 after Webster scored seven straight points after the break. The Griffins clawed their way back and tied the game 44-44 after a Jack Lake putback. Webster then went on a 14-4 run but the Griffins ran out of time despite only trailing by four points with 1:57 to go after a three-pointer by freshman Tyler Schwartz.
Webster took the 75-64 cross-town rival win as they improve to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in conference. Xavier Dortch netted the game-high 23 points which included four treys and seven free throws.
Fontbonne's Lake and Kris McCann each scored 19 points. Eleven of Lake's came in the first half while McCann tallied 12 in the second half. Lake and senior Orkan Bakis each brought down eight rebounds with Bakis notching three treys and a total of 11 points, all of which sank in the second half. McCann added four assists to his totals.
The Griffins conclude their home stand by hosting Westminster College on Saturday, January 21st. That contest should start at 3 p.m. The men will cheer on the St. Louis Falcons in a Special Olympics event during the halftime of the women's game.
