DeLine's 30-Point Performance Leads Griffins Past STLCOP

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a dominant 97-74 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
The Griffins (1-0), found success in all aspects of the game tonight. The team shot 53.0 percent from the floor, 47.4 percent from downtown, 82.6 percent from the charity stripe, and outrebounded the Eutectics 45-32.
Individually, Luke DeLine had himself a night with a game-high 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including going 7-of-11 from downtown.
Jared Woodcock just missed out on a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. Off the bench, Alex Movila contributed 13 points, while Jalen Wadlington added nine.
STLCOP (0-4), meanwhile, shot 42.0 percent from the field but had its struggles from beyond-the-arc going 6-of-26.
Individually, RJ Wright led with a team-high 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting. Darius Dorsey went 7-of-15 to finish with 19, while Dalton Shust contributed 13 off the bench.
In the first, the Griffins opened with a 14-11 lead at the 15:38 mark on a Woodcock 3-pointer. Later in the half, a bucket from RJ Wright cut the Eutectics deficit down to 27-25.
However, the Griffins rattled off a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 40-25 lead. Fontbonne maintained its control and were up 50-33 with just under a minute left.
Then, Kris McCann missed his jumper with 5.0 seconds left. After a turnover by STLCOP, Wadlington picked up the loose ball and drained a 3-pointer as the horn sounded to make it 53-33.
The Griffins shot an impressive 54.5 percent from the floor in the first half and were led by Woodcock's 16 points.
In the second, the Griffins stretched its lead out to 30 (70-40) at the 12:32 mark after Movila earned the old-fashioned 3-point play.
With Fontbonne shooting 51.5 percent in the second half and DeLine netting 18 points, the Griffins were able to go on for the 23-point win.
The team returns to action next weekend in Chicago, Ill. First-up is Marian (Ind.) on Friday night at 5 p.m. On Saturday, they'll play the winner/loser of Moody and Lincoln Christian.
