Griffins Hit Season-High 12 3-Pointers In Loss To Red Devils

EUREKA, Ill.—The Fontbonne University men's basketball team was unable to slow down Eureka's offense with the Red Devils going on for the 116-91 win.
The Griffins (9-14; 7-9 SLIAC), ended with a 42.5 field goal percentage and drained a season-high 12 3-pointers. Individually, Jared Woodcock led with a team-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Caden Clark and Gus Kleekamp had 13 each, while Luke DeLine ended with 10.
The Red Devils (8-13; 7-8 SLIAC), rounded out the afternoon with a 51.9 field goal percentage, hit 12 3-pointers and went 22-of-35 from the line. They also outrebounded Fontbonne 53-43. Dakota Bennington had himself an outing with a game-high 40 points on 13-of-22 shooting.
Hank Thomas went 9-of-15 from the field to finish with 25 points, while Austin Juergens was the final player in double-figures with 22.
In the first, the Griffins grabbed a 22-17 lead on DeLine's made jumper. Eureka, though regained the advantage and stretched its lead out to 32-24 on Bennington's jumper with 11:00 minutes left in regulation.
They maintained its double-digit lead up until Woodcock hit his 3-pointer with 4:09 left to make it a 48-39 contest. Then, at 1:48, after trailing 54-43, the Griffins went on a 5-0 run as Woodcock's 3-pointer cut the deficit down to 54-48 with 37.0 seconds remaining.
However, the Red Devils closed out on a 6-0 run to own a 60-48 lead at the break. Fontbonne shot 50.0 percent from the field and were led by Woodcock's 15 points. The Red Devils, meanwhile, shot 56.4 percent and Bennington was the story with his game-high 27 points.
In the second half, the Red Devils started out on a 11-6 run in the first three minutes and 10 seconds to take a 71-54 lead. Two minutes later, a 3-pointer from Carter Otwell made it a 76-57 game, but over the next four minutes, the Red Devils ratted off a 12-1 run to take an 86-58 lead on Jordan Dehm's bucket.
From there, the Red Devils held onto its lead and they went on for the 25-point win.
The Griffins look to bounce back on the road next Wednesday when they'll take on Iowa Wesleyan. Tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
