How It Happened
In the first half, the Golden Eagles came out rolling with a 19-5 lead at the 13:43 mark on Troy Amanor's made layup. Later, the Griffins got the deficit down to 26-18 on Cody McKinney's 3-pointer with 8:26 to go, however, the Golden Eagles went on a 14-0 run over the next six minutes to lead 40-18.
The Golden Eagles held onto that double-digit lead the rest of the way to lead 47-27 at the break. Fontbonne had its struggles from the floor going 9-of-30 from the field, while Spalding connected on 38.1 percent of its attempts.
The script flipped in the second half as the Golden Eagles were on top 52-29 with 18:07 left in regulation. In just five minutes, the Griffins went on a 13-0 run to cut the deficit down to 52-43 on Anthony Jones' made layup.
The team continued to chip away at the lead as the clock ticked away but as the Griffins got to within a possession the Golden Eagles answered with a bucket of their own.
However, after Cody McKinney made both free throws with 40.0 seconds remaining, the team trailed 71-68. Then, Jones forced a turnover with 23.0 seconds left and he went to score to make it a 71-70 contest.
After a couple of timeouts, the Griffins had the ball with 16.0 seconds left. Jalen Wadlington got the ball on the inbound pass, found McKinney at the top of the key and he drained the 3-pointer to give Fontbonne its first lead of the outing.
Spalding came down the floor with seconds remaining, Marcus Montgomery pulled up from beyond-the-arc and got fouled on his attempt. He went on to make all three free throws to give Spalding a 74-73 lead with six seconds left.
Jones got the ball on the inbound, raced up the court but missed his layup, though Coddington was there to slam it home as the horn sounded to give Fontbonne the wild 75-74 win.
Inside The Numbers
- The Griffins shot 55.9 percent from the floor in the second half to finish at 43.8 percent overall.
- Defensively, the team came away with a season-high 15 steals.
- The Golden Eagles shot 40.0 percent from the floor but had its struggles on both ends of the floor in the second half going just 6-of-13 from the field and committing 18 turnovers.

- Jones led with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting and pulled down eight boards.
- Elijah Rice recorded his first double-double on the year with 15 points and a season-high 10 boards.
- Wadlington went 5-of-9 to conclude with 12 points and McKinney tied his season-high with 11.
Spalding Leaders
- Troy Amanor led with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
- Jaiquan Edwards added 13 points and Marcus Montgomery finished with 11.
