Alum Jason Malott added to Golf and Basketball coaching staff
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University Director of Athletics, Maria Eftink and Director of Golf Operations Lance Thornhill have announced that Jason Malott will assist in day-to-day men's and women's golf operations. He will also assist with the men's basketball program.
"Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Fontbonne golf and men's basketball programs," comments Thornhill. "Being a very competitive tournament golfer, coupled with his upbeat yet even-keeled demeanor makes him a perfect fit to coach at this level."
Malott is a 1997 graduate of Fontbonne University, having played both basketball and golf. He was the Griffins' top golfer for three years, having finished in the top 10 among SLIAC opponents each season.
"I would like to thank coach Lance Thornhill, Director of Athletics, Maria Eftink, and Fontbonne University for the opportunity to be a part of the men's basketball and golf teams," says Malott. "It means a lot to me to go back to a place I considered home for four years."
Malott had an outstanding basketball career, recording 1,464 points and 550 assists as a Griffin. He ranks fifth and second all-time in those career categories respectively. He still holds the single-game record for most assists (12), is twice in the top-ten all-time in single-season points (480-2nd, 440-9th), is third for assists in a season (171) and is fifth and eighth in most PPG average in a season (17.1, 16.3). Malott was a DIII News Honorable Mention All-American his senior year and was a two-time Second Team All-SLIAC and First Team All-SLIAC his senior year. During his tenure, Fontbonne men's basketball were SLIAC Conference and Tournament Champions twice, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's history.
Malott works with Pines Financial Group as an independent registered advisor. Jason and his wife Elizabeth live in Ladue with their three children Noah, Logan and Harper.
