Men's Golf finishes season at SLIAC Championships
Fontbonne's Will Pruden and Zach Goers were edged out of the top 10 during the third round of golf at the SLIAC Championship Tuesday at Aberdeen Golf Course in Eureka, Mo.
Eureka, Mo. - Fontbonnne University men's golf finished their 2016-17 season at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tuesday afternoon, held at Aberdeen Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.
The Griffins finished fifth (939), just five strokes behind two-time champion Spalding University (934). Webster University won the Championship with a score of 897, followed by Blackburn and Iowa Wesleyan. Nine schools participated in the 54-hole, two-day tournament, 36 of which were played on Monday.
With the top-10 finishers in the tournament earning all-conference accolades, Fontbonne senior Zach Goers and sophomore Will Pruden were edged out of the top-10 during Tuesday's round-three action.
Entering the final 18-holes, Pruden sat tied for eighth. Goers was the only Griffin who shot sub-80 each of the three rounds, recording one less stroke in each round of his final collegiate experience as he placed 14th.
Michael Kanan eagled on hole 17 in his third and final round, the only eagle for the Griffins. Fontbonne tallied 14 birdies during the event and was third among their competitors with 136 pars. Matt Rapisardo birdied five times, three of which were recorded in the third round. Two of those were on a par-five on the seventh hole.
Goers is the only senior on the squad. He earned All-Sportsmanship accolades for Fontbonne. The full list of All-Conference performers can be found here.
