St. Louis-The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team suffered their first loss in three games to the Lindenwood University Lions. The Lions outscored the Griffins 21-5 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Hunter Stadium. The Griffins are now 2-2 on the season.
Only one Lion goal was scored in man-up situation and that was in the 3rd quarter. Fontbonne's only man-up goal came in the first quarter as Peter Travis scored off an assist from Adam Walker to narrow Lindenwood's lead to 3-1 with 7:35 until the 2nd.
Fontbonne wouldn't find the back of the net again until the 4th quarter. Caleb Harley scored the 1st goal of the 4th with 12:59 to go. Lindenwood scored their final goal 3.5 minutes later and Fontbonne ended the game scoring the final 3 goals (Cameron Braun, P. Travis and Colin Benecke).
Faceoffs seem to hurt the Griffins as Fontbonne only won 8 of 28 attempts. Lindenwood therefore managed to outshoot Fontbonne 61-23, making goalie Chad Meuer face 40 shots while all three goalies for Lindenwood combined to only face 14.
Meuer saved 19 shots and grabbed 8 ground balls for Fontbonne. Travis scored 2 goals, grabbed 1 assist and scooped up 5 ground balls.
The Griffins are back at home on Thursday against Millsaps. Faceoff is set for 7pm at Centene Stadium.
