The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team lost 16-3 this weekend to Carthage College to fall to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC).
Carthage (10-2 overall and 5-0 MLC) scored 12 unanswered goals to break a 1-1 game wide open. The Griffins got a first quarter goal from Thomas Carroll but Carthage's defense shut them out the rest of the first half. Fontbonne trailed 7-1 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Carthage broke the game wide open outscoring Fontbonne 7-1. The lone Griffin goal came from senior Peter Travis. Samuel Nickols scored Fontbonne's last goal in the fourth quarter.
Senior goalie Chad Meurer recorded 20 saves in defeat setting a new school record for most saves in a game. Carthage outshot Fontbonne 53-29.
Fontbonne returns to the field Tuesday night playing at Augustana College at 4:30 pm.
