St. Louis- The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team fell to the Mount St. Joseph Lions yesterday in overtime 11-10, dismantling playoff hopes for the Griffins.
Faceoff woes hurt the Griffins as they converted just 5 of 24 attempts. Leading 6-2 at the half, the Lions netted 7 shots past junior goalkeeper Chad Meurer to the Griffins lone goal, to lead 9-7 going into the 4th quarter.
Mt. St. Joe scored a goal with 9:20 remaining to lead 10-7, but the Griffins weren't giving up. Caleb Harley scored with 3:39 to go, followed by Adam Walker with 2:03 remaining. Trailing by one, Walker slipped another goal into the net with just 42 seconds on the clock to tie the game.
Andrew Stoffer picked up the ground ball off the first overtime faceoff and scored eight seconds later to win the game.
Meurer recorded 17 saves in the loss while Peter Travis and Harley ended the game with 3 goals apiece.
Fontbonne plays their last game of the season against Aurora this Wednesday evening. Senior night festivities are set to begin around 6:40pm.
