Men's Lacrosse in the Community
St. Louis- Fontbonne University men's lacrosse is on the move this semester! Head Coach Mark Prey has made it apparent that he wishes the program to become more active in the St. Louis community.
One way the team is giving back to the community is its involvement with the School-to-School program at De La Salle Middle School in North St. Louis City. Fontbonne University men's lacrosse partnered with The Michael Sennett Count on Me Foundation to launch an initiative to connect collegiate lacrosse programs with inner city schools to grow the game of lacrosse and teach the valuable life lessons it brings. The School-to-School program provides inner city youth exposure to top level athletic and academic programs in the St. Louis area.
Coaches and players from the Griffin's lacrosse team have been going to De La Salle Wednesday afternoons throughout the fall to teach students the necessary skills to be successful on the lacrosse field and most importantly in the classroom and in their community. Youth students also take part in an enrichment program that includes visits to sponsoring college campuses as well as lacrosse game days. "The coaching staff and all players involved are proud and honored to be a part of this great initiative. We would like to thank Mr. Hendry and the faculty and students at De La Salle for allowing us this opportunity", says Coach Prey. Edward Hendry, the director of The School-to-School program has been elated to have FBU join the volunteer ranks. Mr. Hendry states, "The Fontbonne Men's lacrosse program exemplifies the Count on Me values that the Foundation is based upon. It is very exciting to see the Fontbonne lacrosse program is under the guidance of coaches that are committed to the community and are dedicated to developing players beyond the lacrosse field."
It is the goal of the FBU men's lacrosse program to strive for greatness both on and off the field and we hope to continue to find efforts like this in which to help.
