St. Louis- Fontbonne men's lacrosse took on Carthage College last week. Carthage, picked in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference to finish second, defeated Fontbonne 22-3. The Griffins fall to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in MLC play.
Senior goaltender Tommy Carroll saw an overwhelming 49 shots, saving 27, putting him in the record books for most saves in a game, the second time he has accomplished the task this season.
The Red Men held a 14-0 lead before Brendan Friss found the back of the net twice in the second quarter. Carthage led 18-2 after three, and Joey Mirth notched a goal during the fourth quarter for the final Griffin goal.
Friss tops the Griffins in scoring with 14 while Mirth leads the Griffins in groundballs with 26 on the season. Mirth and Michael Jennings each have seven caused turnovers aiding on the defensive end.
Carroll is the top-ranked MLC player in saves, totaling 114 saves. The #2 goaltender only has 48 saves.
Fontbonne hosts MLC opponent Defiance College on Saturday, March 15th at 3pm. Defiance was winless last season and is 0-3 to start off their 2014 campaign.
