St. Louis- Fontbonne men's lacrosse made history with their 17-0 win over Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) foe Defiance College. The first MLC win of the season for the Griffins was also the first ever shutout in the history of the program, taking their season record to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in MLC play.
Defiance goalkeeper Ricky Potts was busy the entire game, as the Griffins outshot the Yellow Jackets 47-14. Senior Tommy Carroll saved the four on-goal attempts by Defiance.
Defiance got themselves into trouble early after officials found an illegal crosse by Guy DiCicco, creating plenty of man-up opportunities in the ensueing three minutes for Fontbonne. The Griffins led 8-0 after the first quarter, only scoring once more before halftime and four goals each in the final two quarters.
Kyle Dahlin led the Griffins with six goals on eight shots in the win. Defenseman Brad Soble scooped up nine groundballs with Joey Mirth adding an additional eight.
The Griffins travel to Hanover College on Wednesday for just their second road game of the season. First faceoff is scheduled for 3pm.
