St. Louis- Fontbonne men's lacrosse started off stronger than games in the past, keeping Illinois Wesleyan's lead to only four during the first quarter (5-1). More consistent communication on defense allowed Fontbonne to limit the number of Titan shots.
At halftime the Griffins put three more goals past IWU, but still trailed by four (8-4). The Titans came alive after halftime against the tired Griffins, scoring eight unanswered goals during the third quarter and scoring another four in the final quarter. Fontbonne managed to score three more goals before game's end, with Joey Mirth scoring a nice behind the back grounder from Brandon Backus.
Tommy Carel saved 11 with Mirth scoring four goals. Backus, Sean Kulzcyk and Kyle Dahlin each netted one apiece. Bradley Soble's six groundballs was a Griffin-high with Dahlin adding another six.
Tim Smith and Michael Julius each scored six goals for the Titans.
Fontbonne hosts MLC rival Elmhurst this Saturday, March 29th at 1pm.
