Kansas City, Mo. - Fontbonne University men's lacrosse opened their 2015 season with a 21-4 loss to NCAA Division II Rockhurst University.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first on a goal from freshman Jacob Greskoviak who was assisted by fellow freshman Victor Mehrtens. Rockhurst exploded with five goals in five minutes when Ryan Cole found the back of the net, this time assisted by junior Joey Mirth. Rockhurst scored three more before ending the first quarter and started the second quarter with three goals as well.
Marcus Seale was the lone Griffin-scorer in the second quarter as Fontbonne trailed 11-3 at halftime. Fontbonne had no answer for Rockhurst as the Hawks scored nine goals in the third quarter. Fourth quarter action was limited with each team scoring once. The Griffins scored the final goal of the game, again from Seale with 6:41 left to play.
Rockhurst ran the field with 31 alternating players, exhausting the small Griffin squad that used just 13 players. Rockhurst held a 42-8 groundball advantage as well as a 59-14 shot advantage.
Freshman Seth Yance recorded 16 saves in his collegiate debut.
Fontbonne will host Wabash College in their home opener this Saturday, February 14th at 1pm.
