St. Louis, Mo. - The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team dropped a pair of games this weekend including their Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) opener. On Saturday, Fontbonne fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE)13-11 in their MLC home opener. On Sunday, the Griffins lost to NCAA Div. II Lindenwood University 29-1. Fontbonne is now 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the MLC.
On Saturday, the Griffins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes as freshman Brian Nguyen scored a pair of goals. After MSOE rallied to tied it, sophomore Brett Harris scored a goal late in the quarter to give Fontbonne a 3-2 after the first 15 minutes.
In the second quarter MSOE scored three unanswered goals in the first four minutes to take a 5-4 lead. Harris then responded to score three of the next four goals to tie the game at 6-6 with 6:28 to go in the first half. MSOE however responded by scoring three goals in the final three minutes to take a 9-6 lead into halftime.
Fontbonne got three goals to open the third quarter as sophomore Kyle Dahlin, freshman Michael Picciolo and freshman Victor Mehrtens all scored their first goals of the game. MSOE scored to take a brief lead but sophomore Ryan Cole responded with his first goal of the game to tie the score at 10-10 with a 1:40 to go in the third quarter. MSOE again scored late in a quarter to take a 11-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Harris scored his fifth goal of the game for Fontbonne to tie the score at 11-11 with 6:54 to go in the game. MSOE however would scored two goals less than a minute apart to earn the 13-11 win.
Playing just over 24 hours later, Fontbonne fell to Lindenwood the next day with Harris scoring the Griffins lone goal.
Fontbonne returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to play Hanover College at 4:00 pm.
