The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team couldn't recover from a bad first quarter as they fell to Hendrix College today 19-11. The Griffins dropped to 0-8 on the season and 0-2 in the Midwest Lacrossse Conference (MLC).
Hendrix started fast as they blisted the Griffins for seven unanswered first quarter goals. Hendrix scored three more goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead. Fontbonne finally got on the board as sophomore Brett Harris scored his first of six goals at the 10:12 mark of the second quarter. Junior Marcus Seale and freshman Victor Mehrtens also scored in the second quarter as Fontbonne trailed 12-3 heading into halftime.
Harris scored the lone goal of the third quarter for the Griffins as Hendrix extended its lead to 15-4 heading into the fourth. In that fourth quarter, Fontbonne outscored Hendrix 7-4 with Harris scoring four goals. Seale added two goals while Blake Minchew scored his first goal of the season. For the game, senior Joey Mirth tallied a team-high four assists.
The Griffins will return to action Thursday night as they host Elmhurst College at 7 pm.
