2016 Men's Lacrosse Season Cancelled
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University has announced the cancelling of the 2016 men's lacrosse season. After entering the spring semester, unexpected issues with some of the players has restricted Fontbonne from being able to field a team for the current season.
Director of Athletics Maria Eftink, while disappointed in cancelling the season, explained the reasoning behind her decision, "It would not be appropriate or in the best interests of our remaining team members, nor to our competition, to field a team simply with the minimum squad size, risking the safety and competitiveness of our lacrosse program. We would rather take the semester off to start anew and regroup with additional players dedicated to the academic performance and competitiveness that define Fontbonne Athletics."
Coach Mark Prey will now dedicate the entire spring semester and summer to recruiting student-athletes that will help Fontbonne rebuild men's lacrosse into an academically strong and competitive program. The current players will forego using a semester of eligibility but all unanimously plan to return next fall to serve as a solid foundation for our rejuvenated program.
Fontbonne University remains dedicated to the men's lacrosse program and is committed to returning to a full schedule of competition for the spring 2017 season.
