Men's Lacrosse earns thrilling OT victory over Carroll University
The win is the first of the season for Fontbonne men's lacrosse as Berlin Cole scored four goals including the overtime game-winner. Jack Carroll saved 15 in cage for the Griffins.
Waukesha, Wis. - Fontbonne University men's lacrosse pulled out a thrilling overtime victory on a snow-covered field today at Carroll University. The win, the first of the season, is the first victory for the program dating back to April 25, 2015. Fontbonne is now 1-2 on the year.
Berlin Cole was the key play-maker today, scoring a career-high four goals including the game-winner 64 seconds into overtime.
Goalie Jack Carroll saved a career-high 15 in cage for the Griffins. Carroll saved 15 of 21 shots for a .714 save percentage.
Zach Griffith and Cole each scored in the first half as the Griffins trailed 3-2 at halftime. Cole and Brian Nguyen scored the only goals in the third quarter to give Fontbonne a one-goal edge. Carroll scored with 50 seconds left on the clock to tie the game as they held a 3-2 goal advantage in the fourth period.
Dalton Teague, Matt Rech and Michael Picciolo each recorded 10 ground balls in the game. Cole was four-for-six on the day. Nguyen finished with two goals and an assist while Picciolo added another assist. Rech tallied two assists in the win.
Fontbonne is at Benedictine Wednesday and Aurora Saturday morning in Midwest Lacrosse Conference action.
