ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team had its struggles getting the offense going in a tough 22-2 defeat against Benedictine on Saturday.
The Griffins (1-11; 0-6 MLC), totaled 25 shots and got its goals from Kanaan Leach and Michael Picciolo. In goal, Nick Fresta made nine saves.
On the other side of the field, the Eagles (9-4; 5-1 MLC), ended with 44 shots and they were led by Corbin Gett's game-high seven goals and three assists. Nick Wood, Ryden Scarnato and Thomas Tillett finished with three goals each. In net, Jack Collins was stout after making 10 saves.
The Eagles opened with a 6-0 lead through the first 10 minutes of the first. Then, Leach did it himself at the 5:03 mark, scoring an unassisted goal to make it 7-1 at the break.
In the second, after a good clear attempt, Brian Nguyen found Picciolo and he scored his 12th on the season. However, the Eagles scored 15 unanswered goals the rest of the way for the win.
The team will now finish its 2018 season on the road and first-up is Marian next Saturday. Action begins at 1 p.m.
