Picciolo Scores Twice Against Sabres

The Griffins (1-12; 0-7 MLC), finished with 18 shots and they were led by Michael Picciolo as he totaled his 13th and 14th goals on the season. Brian Nguyen, Connor Mallett, Alex Scott, Matt Rech and Cameron Director added the other goals. In net, Nick Fresta was busy with his 17 saves.
The Sabres (5-10; 2-5 MLC), ended with 67 shots. Leading the way was the duo of Nick Kotz and Garrett Houlihan as they combined for 12 goals and 31 shots.
In the first, Klotz gave the Sabres the 1-0 lead at the 12:11 mark as he picked up a ground ball and scored one second later. They extended its lead out to 3-0 but the Griffins got on the board before the period ended.
After a good clear attempt, Picciolo found Mallett and he scored his fifth on the season with 41.0 seconds left. However, in the second Marian went on to score five unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead at the break.
In the third, back-to-back goals from Director (11:59) and Picciolo (11:15), both on man-up opportunities, narrowed the deficit down to 9-3.
The Sabres, though outscored Fontbonne 7-1 the final 11:00 minutes of play and went on into the fourth on top, 16-4.
In the finale, despite the Griffins scoring three more goals they were unable to slow down Marian's offense, who went on for the 16-goal win.
The team looks to bounce back next Wednesday night on the road against Cornell College. Face-off at 6 p.m.
