The Fontbonne University men's soccer team's offense exploded Saturday defeating Eureka College 10-0. The Griffins improved 8-5-1 overall and 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). Fontbonne was won four of their last five games.
The Griffins scored four goals in the opening half, two by senior Zach Meyer, to take a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime. Meyer now leads the team in goals (10) and points (21).
In the second half, the Griffins' four goals in the first 15 minutes to put the game away. Freshman Austin Willenbrock score three of those four goals. Freshman Blake Ricketts, Shay Garner and Ryan Curran all scored their first career collegiate goals. Freshman Kameron Thomas recorded his first career collegiate point when assisted on Garner's goal.
Fontbonne seniors Ryan Essenpreiss and Zach Will and freshman Michael Jennings combined on the shutout.
The Griffins will return to the pitch Tuesday night at 5 pm when they travel to Fulton, MO to play Westminster College.
